Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic top-level extension is the sole TLD planned for personal websites only. These domain names can include personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are popular by. Initially, only third-level registrations were possible, so if you wished to book john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already purchased 3rd-level domains remained running.
